چکیده

Parsimony pressure has been increasingly used as a means of controling code growth in genetic programming. However, several published papers have shown that in some cases its use can degrade the performance of the genetic program Koza, 1992, Nordin and Banzhaf, 1995]. In this paper we show that poor average results with parsimony pressure are a result of \failed" populations which overshadow the results of populations which incorporate par-simony pressure successfully. Additionally, we show that the eeect of parsimony pressure can be measured by calculating the relationship between program size and performance within the population. This measure can be used as a partial indicator of success or failure for individual populations.

E ects of Code Growth and ParsimonyPressure on Populations in GeneticProgramming

Parsimony pressure, the explicit penalization of larger programs, has been increasingly used as a means of controlling code growth in genetic programming. However, in many cases parsimony pressure degrades the performance of the genetic program. In this paper we show that poor average results with parsimony pressure are a result of \failed" populations which overshadow the results of population...

Study of some growth traits of common reed )Phragmites australis( in Iran

Most of the research on Phragmites australis is restricted to sites on the European continent even though P. australis occurs abundantly in many regions in the Asian and other continents under different climatic and habitat conditions. The populations used in this study were collected from different parts of Iran. All these populations were grown in the same conditions in experimental field, lo...

Effects of Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) Leaf Meal and Vitamin E on Productive Performance, Intestinal Microflora and Morphology in Japanese Quail

A total of 240, one-day-old quail chicks (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were used to study the effects of Artichoke leaf meal (ALM) and vitamin E in diet on growth performance, ileal microbial populations and intestinal morphology in a 42-d trial. This experiment was performed as a completely randomized design with 4 replicates of 15 quails each, using a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement with diet and ...

Apolipoprotein E Polymorphism in an Iranian Hypercholestrolemic Population

Apolipoprotein E (apo E) is a structural constituent of several serum lipoprotein classes. It plays an important role in lipid metabolism by acting as a ligand for low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and chylomicron remnant receptors. Three common alleles called e2, e3 and e4 have been described, which code for three protein isoforms (E2, E3 and E4). The polymorphism is clinically significant, and it...
